Michigan (CPL) Concealed Pistol Class

Our comprehensive Concealed Carry Course is designed to meet and exceed the Michigan Standard to obtain a Concealed Pistol License (CPL). Our Concealed Carry Class will go over a range of specific subjects considered essential knowledge for all gun owners. We welcome students of all skill levels, even those with no prior experience with firearms.
Please note, only Michigan Residents can obtain a Michigan CPL, Must be 21 in order to obtain your Michigan CPL

What to Expect
A CPL class is approximately 8 hours; the classroom portion lasts at least 5 hours, and the shooting range section is at least 3 hours.
Our course will cover
- Conflict avoidance
- Situational awareness
- Defensive shooting fundamentals
- How to efficiently and effectively draw a handgun from a holster
- The physiology of violent encounters
- Legal aspects of using deadly force
- The aftermath of a defensive shooting
What to Bring
- One Open Mind willing to learn new tactics, techniques, and principles (TTP)
- Pen / Pencil & Notepad
- Valid state issued ID
- One Good Quality Strong Side – Outside the Waistband (OWB) Holster or Strong Side – Concealed Carry Holster (IWB) ~ Holster must allow 1 handed reholstering, no cross-draw or shoulder rigs
- Cover Garment to Conceal your Pistol and Holster
- An Under Shirt is recommended
- Range Appropriate Clothing (See below)
- Pistol (9mm or Above is recommended)
- 150rds of Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) Ammunition More is Better!
- Minimum of 2 Magazines More is Better!
- Strong Belt
- Ear and Eye Protection (Loaners Available)
- Bag Lunch
- Snack and Drinks
Rental Guns
If you don’t have a gun of your own yet, we provide rental firearms for an additional fee of $25.
Range Appropriate Clothing
Try to avoid open-toed shoes or open-collar shirts. Firearms expel hot casings that can cause minor burns if they land on sensitive body parts.
Upon Completion
After the course, you will receive a certificate of completion. You will need to submit this document when applying for a license at your local county clerk’s office. Provided you meet all other requirements, you should receive your Michigan Concealed Pistol License (CPL) in 45 days.

Meet your Instructor
John has taught tactical and personal defense skills for over 15 years. He is currently the Manager and Chief Instructor for Kodiak Firing Range. He is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps with over 5 years of service in which he served as a Team Leader for Signals Intelligence and as a First Degree Black Belt instructor for the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP). John also holds Black Belts in Karate-Do and JuJitsu.
He is also the Owner and Chief Instructor for Spartan Dynamics LLC, a company dedicated to providing realistic and practical personal protection in unarmed and armed defense. He is open-minded, and constantly evolving to more efficient and more effective methodologies for personal defense. John is also a graduate of several tactical and personal defense programs, some of which include RangeMaster Instructor Development Course, MAG-40 with Massad Ayoob, Extreme Close Quarter Concepts (ECQC) and Edged Weapons Overview (EWO) with Shivworks’ Craig Douglas and Paul Sharp, a USCCA Certified Instructor in multiple disciplines, and is a Certified NRA Instructor in multiple disciplines.
