Close Quarters Pistol: Standing to Ground

Course Description
Learn the basic fundamentals of using a pistol while entangled or within arms reach of an attacker. This 8-hr course is broken up into 4 individual blocks of training which can be taken separately or all together.

$100 Full 8-Hr Course: For Live Fire must take Pistol Combatives or Concealed Carry First
Block One: Live Fire Position “3” and “2”
Time: 9am to 10:50am
Preq: Concealed Carry, Functional Pistol Combatives, or approval by instructor
This 2-hr block will teach students how to shoot from a “2” and “3” position. We’ll discuss at what distance each position is appropriate. We’ll shoot from position, and if time allows transition from 2 to 4 and 4 to 2.

- Distance Management: Understanding what distances each are used in.
- One-Handed Clearing Methods to gain access to a pistol from concealment
Items Need:
- One Open Mind willing to learn new tactics, techniques, and principles (TTP)
- Pen / Pencil & Notepad
- Must be 18* or older (Conditions apply for students under 21. Call 574.299.8000 or email john@MyDefenseTraining.com for details).
- One Good Quality Strong Side Outside the Waistband (OWB) Holster or strong side concealed carry holster (IWB) ~ Holster must allow 1 hand re-holstering, no cross-draw or shoulder rigs
- Cover Garment to Conceal Pistol and Holster
- Pistol 9mm or Above is recommended
- 100rds to 150rds of Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) Ammunition
- Min of 2 Magazines More is Better!
- Strong Belt
- Ear and Eye Protection (Loaners Available)

Block Two: Standing Entanglements
Time: 11am to 12:50pm
Preq: None
In this block we’ll cover how to make distance from an aggressor in order to draw a pistol and how to control an aggressor in clinch when making distance is not possible or practical. This block will utilize training pistols (Blue guns/Foam guns) to work against a live opponent in order to apply the skills learned from block one. If time allows, we’ll also discuss how to take someone down to the ground in a controlled manner in order to get into a position of advantage while on the ground.

- How to Clear Malfunctions with in a clinch
- How to use a “dead gun” in the clinch

Lunch
Time: 1pm to 1:30pm
Lunch time!!! Bring a bagged lunch. We’ll eat on site and discuss questions and what ifs that were not covered in blocks One and Two.
Block Three: Ground Entanglements POA
Time: 1:30pm to 3:20pm

I took my aggressor to the ground, now what? While many fights can end after a takedown, we want to plan for when it doesn’t. In this block we’ll cover techniques and principles to stay on top of the fight, how to get away, and when and how to use the gun when on top of an aggressor.

Stuff happens! Sometime even through our best efforts we end up with an opponent on top of us. The time to think about how to get out a bad spot is not in the moment, but through training. In this block we’ll cover ways to stay safe against strike and weapons, how to get back to your feet, and when it appropriate to draw a pistol while on your backside. “Improve is good for comedy, not for self-defense”
