Introduction

Reflex sights are cutting-edge optical devices designed to enhance shooter accuracy by offering a clear, illuminated aiming point. Unlike traditional iron sights, reflex sights do not magnify the target but instead project a red or green dot onto a lens, superimposing it over the target. This allows for faster and more precise target acquisition. Reflex sights offer numerous advantages to both novice and experienced shooters by improving accuracy, reducing the time needed to find the target, and providing a broader field of view compared to traditional sights.

The simplicity and efficiency of reflex sights make them an essential accessory for modern pistols, carbines, and other firearms. Shooters no longer need to align front and rear sights as with traditional aiming methods, enabling them to stay focused on their target.

This course will be structured into four 2-hour sessions, each focusing on key concepts and practical applications for mastering reflex sight pistols.

Session One: Finding the Dot

• Lecture: Why Choose a Reflex Sight? (30 min)
  • In this session, we will explore the advantages and drawbacks of using a reflex sight, focusing on both red dot and green dot optics. Other dot colors are welcomed.
• Practical Application: Finding the Dot (1.5 hrs, 150 rounds)
  • Learn how to zero and then find the dot from a compressed ready position, integrating both live-fire and dry-fire drills to build familiarity and precision.

Session Requirements

• Pistol: Semi-Automatic or Revolver with Reflex Sight “Red Dot/Green Dot etc…
• 150rds of Ammunition
• One Good Quality Strong Side Outside the Waistband (OWB) Holster or strong side concealed carry holster (IWB) ~ Holster must allow 1 hand reholstering, no cross-draw or shoulder rigs 
• 3 Double Stacked Magazine (6 for Single Stacked Magazines) or 6 Speed Loaders (Limited Loaners available)
• Ear and Eye Protection (Loaners Available)
• Cover Garment to Conceal Pistol and Holster

Session Two: Keeping the Dot

• Lecture: Grip Mastery (20-30 min)
  • Develop the techniques for a solid grip that enhances recoil management and allows the shooter to return to the target quickly and accurately.
• Practical Application: Keeping the Dot (1.5 hrs, 150 rounds)
  • Practice a series of drills designed to solidify your grip and maintain the dot on target throughout different shooting scenarios.

Session Three: Finding the Dot From the Holster

• Classroom: Drawstroke (1 hr)
  • This section focuses on mastering a four-count drawstroke, designed to bring the firearm efficiently and accurately on target from the holster.
• Practical Application: Live Fire (1 hr, 150 rounds)
  • Apply the drawstroke to live-fire exercises, reinforcing speed and precision in target acquisition from the holster.

Session Four: When You Lose the Dot

• Lecture: Types of Malfunctions (20-30 min)
  • Discuss common issues and malfunctions that can occur with reflex sights, including optic failures and dot loss.
• Practical Application: No Dot, No Problem (1.5 hrs, 150 rounds)
  • Overcome reflex sight failures with drills designed to manage and troubleshoot common issues. Learn how to adapt and engage targets even when the optic fails.
